work + play + storage, Highland Park

Courtney + Brett: We had a large, partially finished basement that was mostly used for random storage, but we always new had potential to be an inspiring working place. But we never got around to it...our storage gathered dust haphazardly. Eventually it became just another unfinished project. Then, when Erika pitched her services, she gave us the inspiration we needed to transform our space!

Erika does the impossible. She actually made transforming our space fun! She offers a real vision for what the space could be like and helped us unlock its potential. It was so much fun ideating with Erika what our hopes and dreams were for the space, and then she took those cues and gave us actionable ways to realize them.

Reworking a space can be really overwhelming. Erika was so good at empathizing with the mental and emotional challenges of the task. She was acutely aware of the emotional dynamics of the space...she knew when to push and when to reassure. Now, our space is no longer a storage room. It is our sanctuary for creativity.

I actually look forward to heading down into the basement because it's actually conducive to my creative practices. It feels categorically different than the rest of our home; it gives me permission to play and make things. Plus, our dog LOVES coming down here now! She's never been more calm then when she's laying next to my crafting desk!
