multipurpose art studio, Highland Park

Leslie: “My art studio space is fairly small, but it serves multiple overlapping functions in my life, and I've had to get creative with how I think about using it in these different ways. I felt pretty good about how it was laid out when I first set it up, but over the years, the disparity between how I imagined it would function and how it actually functions led to a lot of frustration. I felt l needed a reset to help me feel excited about working in there again.

Erika was extremely thoughtful with my space, always asking questions about how I use things and how I would like things to function. She didn't push or judge about anything I didn't want changed, and her excitement was infectious.

At one point, Erika looked at a poster on the wall and asked, "Would you consider moving that?" And I immediately knew the answer was: "Nope!" Instead of being disappointed or frustrated, she was genuinely delighted that I knew what I wanted. I think of that when I look at that poster now!

The practical result you want for an organization session is a feeling of knowing where everything is and an absence of clutter. That's definitely been the result. The other day I was looking for a tool I rarely use, and I remembered when Erika suggested arranging my drawers by how often I'm likely to need the items, and then I knew exactly where it would be. Bottom drawer!

The most powerful aspect of the experience was getting to feel excited about working in my space again! I got to clear out the frustration and stagnation I was feeling in there.”
